Decluttering When Getting of Age

As we age, it’s natural to feel proud of our accomplishments. However, it’s important to remember that not everything will have gone as planned. We may sometimes wish we could change the past, but it’s crucial to recognize that our mistakes have provided us with valuable learning experiences.

These experiences have helped us understand our previous wrongdoings and grow as individuals.

Along with accumulating experiences and memories, we also collect physical items. These items can include things we use, value, relate to, inherit, or receive as gifts. However, as we age, we may find ourselves feeling overwhelmed by the amount of stuff we’ve accumulated.

One of the main reasons for this is the influence of consumerism. We’ve been conditioned to work hard and earn money to buy the things they want to sell to us. As a result, we may feel compelled to keep everything we own, even if it’s not useful or adds value to our lives.

Here are two starting points for decluttering:

1. Ask yourself if you use an item or if it adds value to your life right now. If not, it’s likely clutter, and you can give yourself permission to let it go.

2. Consider whether you want to be remembered for having kept all this stuff. If not, it’s time to let go.
